A towering colleague;

Pa Chichewa Pali mawu, “Olila samtseka pa kamwa”. We mourn a man determined to transform a college into a university so modernized and following rules and regulations to the letter.

I think about the drafting of the statutes, various policies, placement paper(s) etc. I remember the “fights” we had with DHRMD consultants while we came up with organizational structure for MUBAS.

Such a man who courageously pushed for a PMS even though resistance was overt even from people close to him. A professional who advised perfectly without fear.

I look at the staff database that was automated, at a click of a button we would know much about any member of staff.

He was never shy to say his mind in any situation, he would say it anyhow. It would be up to you to agree with him or not. Gregory helped many members of staff to focus on what is their role at MUBAS. I wonder whether there shall be another. As David Rubadiri stated, “my spirit is diminished by the weight of this loss”.

Some of us didn’t know that our colleague was sickly. His absence from campus though raised questions which never got answered.

Gregory organized our social services including the conduct of our funerals. What should the employer contribute etc. he was instrumental in this policy, the conditions of service.

We are mourning a towering figure of HR, who managed to stand to principle even in an institution taunted as tough, with people who would have been his lecturers in HR.

May Sir Gregory E. K. Banda’s soul rest in eternal peace with the Lord.

Words may fail us but the memory of your selfless service remains etched in our hearts forever.

Mr. Gregory Banda. Words fail me, Chief. I never came to your office and left without feeling that I had been assisted, even if it was just a word of assurance or reassurance. And when you were tough, it was because you had to be. With you, I never felt that you were tough because it was personal, but because you were a consummate professional. And I remember the personal conversations, for instance, about your home, Ntchisi. I will miss seeing you on campus and talking to you, Gregory. Rest well, brother. Rest in God's eternal peace.

Rest well Gregory. You fought so hard but the Lord has called you. You shall forever be remembered as one of our best to walk on MUBAS staff corridors. Rest in peace brother.

Lord, we thank You for the gift of Gregory's life.

It is heartbreaking to learn of the passing of our dear colleague 😭😭😭😭. It is difficult to accept that someone we worked with, shared moments with, and valued so much is no longer with us.

Gregory was a truly hardworking, humble, and loving man. His dedication to his work was remarkable. I will particularly remember his commitment and the time he devoted to establishing and implementing the MUBAS Performance Management System. He gave himself wholeheartedly to this important initiative, leaving a lasting contribution to our institution.

Beyond his professional achievements, it was his humility, loving nature, and dedication that made him special. Working with him was a privilege, and his passing leaves a void that will be difficult to fill.

Gregory, your journey on earth has ended, but your contribution and the memories we shared will live on. You have left your mark at MUBAS, and you will not be forgotten.

May the Almighty God comfort your family, friends, and all of us who had the privilege of knowing and working with you. May He give us strength to bear this painful loss.
